Unlinked, How Live Experiences Add Value

Jon Upshaw recently sparked an essential conversation: the design community is increasingly scattered across platforms that rarely foster genuine connections. Amid rapid-fire trends and algorithm-driven dialogues, meaningful exchanges about design and creativity often become diluted.
We couldn't agree more. Great products, brands, and experiences aren't built by merely following what's trending. They're born from immersion, actively participating in culture and real-world experiences as they unfold.
Take our recent trip to Austin during SXSW. Being physically present in those moments allowed us to engage directly in conversations shaping our industry's direction, not chasing trends but actively helping define them.

Why In-Person Experiences Still Matter
Yes, Aerolab is proudly remote first. We've embraced the flexibility and opportunities that come with working digitally. Yet, we've also learned the value of showing up in person, whether it's brainstorming with a client, attending a live event, or simply getting to know a team on a deeper level. Face-to-face interactions create moments of authentic creativity and collaboration that digital meetings often can't replicate. These gatherings help ground our remote culture in human experiences, fostering stronger connections within our team and with our partners.
This is exactly what we experienced with VeChain. As part of our work on a DAO project, we've traveled alongside their team to forge a true partnership. We kicked off our collaboration by visiting Ireland to meet the VeChain team working directly with us. Those in-person connections helped strengthen the bonds that were crucial for the success of the project. Our next stop was San Francisco, where we joined them for the mainnet launch, exchanging insights and learning more about the evolving Web3 space together. This year, we'll take off on new heights with them to continue strengthening our collaboration, diving deeper into how they operate and solidifying our partnership through those live moments that really make an impact.

Brands as Lived Experiences
Brands today can't simply exist as polished visuals or clever campaigns. They're defined by real, lived experiences. Consumers feel brands through every interaction: products, services, conversations, and even casual interactions on social media.
Our ongoing partnership with VeChain illustrates this perfectly. We've traveled with their team, immersing ourselves in their vision, from bonding in Ireland to engaging deeply in Web3 discussions. This year, we're headed to Japan to continue strengthening that relationship, crafting meaningful product design and branding strategies rooted in genuine experiences and insights.

Showing Up Where It Counts
As Upshaw suggests, digital platforms often can't offer the grounding that the design community needs. Real connections, deep conversations, and genuine innovation happen in person, whether it's at a conference, meeting clients, or simply sharing a coffee in the same physical space.
That's why, despite the ease of digital communication, we prioritize showing up authentically and intentionally. The future of design, branding, and product innovation depends on these real-world moments. They ground us, inspire us, and make our work truly impactful.

What are your thoughts on the role of in-person immersion in today's digital-first landscape? We'd love to hear your perspective, just this time, we will accept it both over coffee or through your digital platform of choice.
