The most overlooked part of building great products

It's a Match!

Finding the right agency is weirdly similar to dating. The kind where you talk expectations early, before anyone starts imagining matching keys.

Because the truth is: the first date doesn't start on the first date. It starts earlier, quietly, online. You scroll, you zoom in, you look for signals. You try to understand who they are when they're not in a meeting. How they show up in the world. What they choose to highlight. What they don't. The tone, the patterns, the intent. Clients do it with agencies. Agencies do it too, though most won't say it out loud.

Before the first call, both sides already have a story in their head. And the first meeting is basically… checking if that story holds up in real life.

The opening call with Partnerships is the first date: sharp questions, big vision, great energy. Everyone brings their best self. Everyone genuinely excited about what this could become. There's that mix of confidence and nerves, because even in business there's always a version of: am I good enough? will they like us? should I say this, or will it ruin the vibe?

And then, somewhere during or after that first call, the real filter shows up: the vibe check. You don't fully control it. You can't spreadsheet it. It's not even a rational decision. It's gut. Did we feel the butterflies? Did we leave thinking, I want to build with these people, or did we leave thinking, we might be forcing this?

And that's when the process stretches a bit. Two or three “dates” with Partnerships. More context. More questions. More small signals. More chances to see how the other side thinks.

And at some point you ask yourself the only question that matters: Did we actually hit it off? Can we do the work together?

Then it's official, the kickoff gets scheduled, and you meet Ops. That's the honeymoon: rituals, tools, timelines, real teamwork. The part where the flirting stops and the building begins. The shift from “impressing each other” to trusting each other. From polished talk to shared execution.

And after that, it becomes the real thing: the day-to-day. Staying aligned, iterating fast, and still loving the build. Because the way the partnership fits shapes everything that follows: how quickly decisions happen, how clearly priorities land, and how confidently teams can move without over-explaining every step.

Here's what most people forget: clients aren't the only ones searching. Agencies are searching too. The match isn't just about whether the project works. It's about whether the team works.

Talent is everywhere now. Tools are better than ever. Shipping is faster by the month.

What separates great outcomes is trust.

The kind that lets you move at speed without breaking things. That keeps decisions clean, expectations aligned, and the shipping cadence strong.

That trust is built through fit. It comes from the match. And when the match is right, the partnership stops being something you manage, and starts being something you build with.
